Slice the cakes in half to make a four-layer cake. Slice the dome of each cake and remove, which will give a flatter surface. Stack each slice of cake and apply the icing. For this particular cake, the icing can ooze out and run down the sides. Sprinkle orange or lemon rind and walnuts to garnish the top.
