My Aunt made these and they are one of my favorite Christmas cookies.

They are delicate in flavor and usually a real winner.

Preheat oven to 375F.

Mix first 5 ingredients together.

Sift flour and salt together.

Stir 1/2 of flour mix into shortening mix.

Work remaining flour into mix with hands till the dough holds together.

Divide dough in half.

Mix 1/2 of dough with red food coloring.

Healthy pinch off a bit of white dough and roll into a long cigarette, healthy pinch off a bit of red dough and roll into a long cigarette.

Twist white and red dough together, place on cookie sheet and bend into a candy cane shape.

Remove from oven and dust with granulated sugar.
