NOTES : Hattie Preston was a family friend; she worked with and later lived upstairs from Aunt Virgy.
-
8
One of my first memories of her was when she came to a party with a large ice cream bucket filled with Brandy Slush.
-
9
It is a great recipe for parties.
-
10
People love it; it is easy to serve.
-
11
I always had a bucket of slush in the freezer in my early entertaining days.
-
12
Hattie shared many family holidays with us.
-
13
Since her only daughter lived in California, she had an open invitation to our gatherings.
-
14
Many a time she would surprise us with a difficult Trivial Pursuit answer.
-
15
She was an avid crafter like me.
-
16
I think the saddest memory of her was when she had her stroke and was no longer able to do her crafts.
-
17
I still have a counted cross stitch light switch cover she made.
-
18
Her gifts were always clever.
-
19
For example, one year she gave my husband, Mr. Thrifty, a can crusher.

The memory of Hattie still lives on-with her crafts and with her recipes.
