4 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 Tbsp. vanilla, almond or lemon extract
6 c. flour
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 or 4 c. nuts
1 or 2 c. candied fruit or gum drops
4 c. unsweetened applesauce
4 tsp. soda
1/4 c. hot water
2 large bowls
large paper sack, No. 1

In the first bowl, cream together sugar, shortening and eggs. In second bowl, place applesauce, add soda to the hot water and mix into applesauce (use big bowl).

In large paper sack, place 1 cup of flour, add the raisins, candied fruit, gum drops and nuts. Shake to coat the fruits and nuts.

Add 1/3 of the applesauce mixture and 1/3 flour, fruit and nut mixture to the creamed mixture.

Mix very well.

Add second 1/3 of the applesauce mixture and 2nd 1/3 of flour fruit nut mixture to the creamed mixture. Mix very well.
