Basic Sugar Cookies, Great For Kids

   In a mixing bowl, cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and extracts. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl; then add to butter mixture 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition.

   Do not chill dough. Divide dough into 2 balls. On a floured surface, roll each ball into a circle approximately 12 inches wide and 1/8 inch thick. Cut out as many shapes as you can, and re-roll the scraps of leftover dough once if you want. Dip cookie cutter in flour between cuts if it gets sticky. Transfer to ungreased cookie sheets and bake 6-7 minutes at 400 F. Don't let them brown or they will be hard and crunchy. Makes about 5 dozen medium-sized cookies.
