Apple Cobbler

   Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt the stick of butter in a 13x9x2 glass baking dish and set aside. Heat sugar and water in medium sauce pan till dissolves, set aside. Cut shortening into flour with pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles course crumbs. Add the milk and stir with a fork until dough leaves sides of bowl. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth, Roll out to a 12x10x1/4inch rectangle. Spread the apple mixture evenly over dough and roll up jelly-roll style beginning with long side. Press edges to seal. Cut into @14 or 16 slices, each @ 1/2 inch thick. Arrange slices in pan with melted butter. Pour the sugar syrup around and over the rolls. Bake 40-45 minutes till lightly golden brown. Cool.
