   Mix shortening, sugar

   beat

   well.

   Stir

   in apples which have been

   pared, cored and cut in thin slices or strips. Add nuts.

   Sift

    dry ingredients and blend with apple mixture. Bake in a 9 x 9-inch pan (greased) at 350u00b0 for 40 to 50 minutes. Cut in squares.
