1 c. shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
4 to 4 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped nuts

Simmer raisins in water 5 minutes.

Drain and save 1/2 cup liquid.

Blend shortening, spices and vanilla.

Add sugar gradually, creaming thoroughly.
