   Cream together the shortening, margarine, sugar and eggs, beating in eggs one at a time. Dissolve soda in about 1/2 cup milk and beat in nutmeg or vanilla.

   Mix in enough flour to make the dough rollable but not too stiff as this makes cookies too tough. Roll and cut out with a large cutter, preferably crinkles around the edges.

   Bake in a hot oven at 400u00b0 until lightly browned.

   If you want, put a big raisin in the center of each before baking, also dust sugar on the tops.
